Add `escape` function which escapes UTF-8 characters into their 3-byte format

Example:

    $ escape "♥♡♥"
    \xE2\x99\xA5\xE2\x99\xA1\xE2\x99\xA5
    $ echo -e "\xE2\x99\xA5\xE2\x99\xA1\xE2\x99\xA5"
    ♥♡♥
